PIPING DRAUGTHSPERSON

Draughtsperson – Occupational Certificate: Draughtsperson (Piping Draughtsperson) SAQA ID: 99575 – NQF Level 5 –  Credits 234

Draughtsman, are typically skilled persons who convey an idea or design
to the owner and/or manufacturer of:

  • Buildings
  • Process Plants

This was traditionally done, by using sketches or drawings on paper.
Most learners still use this method at school for various subjects, the most
relevant being Technical Drawing.

Currently, computer software known as Computer Aided Design (CAD) is used for the designing of virtual 3D models and for producing the drawings as required.

If you are someone, who is passionate about drawing and enjoys perceiving objects in 3D, you are potentially a good candidate to undertake a learnership in 2D and 3D drafting.

    EGD or N3 certification with Mathematics 60%

ELECTRICIAN

ELECTRICIAN Occupational Qualification – SAQA ID 91761 Occupational Certificate:

Electrician NQF Level 4 (36 Months) 360 credits PURPOSE OF THIS PROGRAMME The purpose of this programme is to give learners the opportunity to be part of the future by following the mandate set by the Qualifications Council for Trades and Occupations. The Occupational Qualification- Electrician is an apprenticeship programme which runs over three years and learners will during their training learn to

– Plan and prepare work site, equipment, tools, consumables and materials for electrical activities and operations.

– Install, wire, and connect electrical equipment and control systems.

– Test and inspect electrical equipment, control systems and installations.

– Commission control systems and installations.

– Maintain and repair electrical equipment, control systems and installations.  

The programme is structured and covers three main areas namely. 

– Knowledge Modules which cover the industry and aspects related electricity

– Practical Modules teaching the candidate to perform everything related to programme in regards Install, wire, connecting, testing, commissioning and fault-finding on electrical equipment and control systems 

– Workplace Modules which give the learners valuable life lessons on the working world related to the electrical Industry which will include being mentored by coaches and then eventually being able to perform work unsupervised.  

Recommended Entry Criteria

■ Minimum age of 16 years

■ Grade 12 or NCV Level 4 Or N3

■ Math, Science, engineering drawings, Electrical Trade Theory – min 50%

MECHANICAL FITTING

Mechanical Fitter – Occupational Certificate: Mechanical Fitter SAQA ID: 94021 NQF Level 4- Credits 410

Once parts have been manufactured or purchased for assembly, the work of
the Mechanical fitter is initialized.

The accurate installation and alignment
of pumps and electrical motors will typically form part of his work.

Whilst being a physical job, the use of cranes and specialized installation
equipment is often used, to facilitate the Mechanical Fitter’s work execution.

If you think you would like to follow instructions using detailed drawings,
you may be suited to enter the field of Mechanical Fitting.

WELDING

Welding – Occupational Certificate: Welder SAQA ID: 94100 NQF Level 4 – Credits 373

A welder is a person who is specialized in joining various pieces of material (typically formed steel sections) together using various welding techniques.

These include fundamental gas or arc welding by using welding rods (Stick), to more advanced techniques e.g., MIG and TIG.

Ultimately you could become a Coded Welder and perform specialized welding of e.g., Stainless Steels, Aluminium and Cast iron.

A welder is someone who can concentrate continuously, whilst enjoying attention to detail, in carrying out an often-repetitive task.
